On Wednesday 9th June 2021, we had the privilege of having Steve from MetroNet coming to update us about the Cockburn-Thornlie link. It was an informative evening where he has shown the progress and some conceptual drawings of what the station will be like once it is completed in late 2022.

One of the main takeouts is that there will be some major disruption on the Mandurah Line from late December for up to 25 days to widen the track for the future Cockburn-Thornlie Link.

The Thornlie-Cockburn Link will be Perthโ€™s first cross line connection, making travel around the city by train more flexible and providing a higher level of public transport service to Perthโ€™s southern suburbs.

The 17.5-kilometre project includes new stations at Nicholson and Ranford roads, changes to Thornlie and Cockburn stations and relocating 11 kilometres of freight railway.

Prepare for major disruptions

Major disruptions will take place on the Mandurah Line from late December for up to 25 days to widen the tracks, making way for the future Thornlie-Cockburn Link.

During this disruption the Mandurah Line will:

  • Close between Aubin Grove and Elizabeth Quay stations.
  • Run a reduced schedule between Mandurah and Aubin Grove stations.

Information on the details of the disruption will be available on this page in the coming months. In the meantime, you can find out more here.

If you travel on the Mandurah Line regularly please start to prepare.

Register for project updates via METRONET, view public transport service disruptions via Transperth or subscribe to updates from Main Roads WA.

Currently, they are seeking feedback on the disruption via https://www.buildingfortomorrow.wa.gov.au/projects/thornlie-cockburn-link/

Anyone who uses the Perth to Mandurah line and has any feedback or questions they need to be answered please click the link and leave your thoughts

This feedback will directly impact the temporary bus services implemented during the 25-days shutdown from Boxing Day 2021.

Cockburn Central Station changes

Cockburn Centralโ€™s existing island platform will be extended at the northern (Perth) end to create the terminating platform for the Thornlie-Cockburn Link.

The platform will be extended by 150 metres and will offer at least 50 per cent platform coverage with an on-platform
building to house electrical equipment and staff facilities. Associated services will include security and passenger information systems.

More information can be found via MetroNet website.

When you drove past our Calleya Oval you can see there are two major projects underway, one is for our Treeby West Primary School and the other is the Treeby Community and Sports Centre!

TCA is excited to see the construction is progressing nicely as in the future we can host many community events there and bring all the residents together.

Progress shots of the new Treeby Community and Sports Centre which will be ready in early 2022.

The new centre will have activity, function and meeting spaces, an enclosed play area, kitchen and canteen, clubrooms and change rooms.

This is the project page of the Treeby Community and Sports Centre.

Below are the concept renders based on the community feedback back in 2019.

Construction is underway and scheduled to be completed by Feb 2022

Our local Primary School is coming along nicely. Many mainframes are already erected with insulation and roofs to be installed next! ๐Ÿซ

But first, a most important line of business. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿซ

We have an incredibly important decision to make as a school community, as the time has come to name our school.

Please vote for your preferred choice here โœ”๏ธ

The three approved names on the list meet the rigorous and detailed requirements for naming new schools. Our choices are:
  • Treeby Primary School (named after the suburb)
  • Treeby Gardens Primary School (named after the suburb and the link to its market garden history)
  • Torwood Primary School (named after the street address)
The poll will stay open until Tuesday 20 April 2021. After review by the Steering Committee, the most preferred name will be submitted to the Minister for Education and Training for approval.

Thanks

Principal

Good morning fellow Calleyans!
I bring exciting news ๐Ÿคฉ

For those who are looking forward to the news for our Treeby Primary School (name tentative), here is an introduction from our new principal Jane Wescott ๐Ÿ‘

Please check out their new Facebook page too for more information and updates!

If you don't have Facebook, don't worry, here is the full intro.

My name is Jane Wescott, and I am both excited and privileged to be the Foundation Principal of our new school in Treeby.

I truly believe that every child will learn and reach their full potential, when they are supported by adults who care for them, when they are connected to each other; and when there is a deep sense of belonging to our school and community.

My vision for our school, is of a community proudly united in the belief that we are better when we are together; and when our decision-making has students at its centre. I have a deep commitment to learning for all; children, teachers and the wider community and believe that by holding learners accountable to the highest standards and providing them with academic and social support they will rise to the challenge. At our new school, all children will dream positively about their futures, connect their passions to their learning and be provided with the opportunities and resources they need to reflect on and reach their goals.

As a leader, I am passionate about ensuring that research-proven strategies are embedded in our school and I continue to enjoy learning through post-graduate studies. During my teaching career I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching in both country and metropolitan schools, including as a Level 3 Classroom Teacher. Having then worked as a Deputy Principal in two schools, I have relished the opportunity to have been a Principal of three schools. Most recently, this has been at Charthouse PS.

In 2021, I will be seeking volunteers within our school community to be part of the consultative Steering Committee to help choose our schoolโ€™s name, logo and uniform. Please follow our new Facebook page to see how you can be involved. Until our name is finalised, and our website has been developed, Iโ€™ll be regularly posting updates on the Facebook page, using our planning name.

Whilst our school is being built, I will be based at Atwell PS and I would like to thank them all for welcoming me to their school. Please feel free to contact me via email at Treeby.PS.BanjupW@education.wa.edu.au to say hello or ask any questions you may have.

I am looking forward to our adventure, as we ready our school to welcome students in 2022.

Thanks

Jane

See you at our next event! ๐Ÿ‘‹

This is a quick update to inform the resident that part of Solomon Road parallel to Calleya Estate had been opened which allowed residents to come into the estate via Greensand Promanade (new entry) and Dollier Street (existing entry). See map above for the green coloured line.

However, it also appears that they had temporarily closed the minor stretch of Solomon Road between Dollier Street and Cutler Road โš ๏ธ. See map above for the red coloured line. Making it into a 1-lane street, causing unnecessary jams during normal hours.

TCA has not received any information regarding this closure and still waiting to hear back from the council. We do wish that this closure is only temporary and fast. Will post another update as we know more!

So please plan your routes carefully.

If you wish to go Kwinana Freeway or Northbound, please detour using Jandakot Road and Berrigan Drive. If you are heading Southbound, going via Clementine Boulevard is the less jam option at the moment.

Take care and drive safe ๐Ÿš—!

Today Treeby Community Association executive team had a bi-monthly meeting in our community garden. Many topics are on the table for discussion, and there is one that I would like to share with all of you (residents of Treeby) here.

As a few of you probably read on our WhatsApp group or our Treeby Crime Watch FB group that there have been a few thefts around the area, as well as 4WD intrusion near Ghostgum roundabout. CoSafe and Police were informed of these activities and subsequently, they are logged.

In the last Neighbourhood Watch meeting the statistics for April 2020 are released and here is Treeby.

As you can see there is a jump between the incidents in February 2020 and April 2020. This is due to multiple factors such as COVID-19 lockdown, unemployment, and being a new construction area are easy targets.

Regardless of the result, I have to applause our community for staying vigilant and keeping eyes around our estate. There are many instances where our community came together and deter suspicious activities. By working together we can make our estate safer for everyone!

Thank you all. We hope the number will drop back down in our next meeting.

We urge you to report any incidents or suspicious activities to the following organisations. Just remember that CrimeStoppers is an intelligence database that sends information out to relevant departments to action. When calling the police or CrimeStoppers, call CoSafe as well as often they are closer to the incident than the police.

000 (Emergency) ๐Ÿ†˜

  • Emergencies that are life-threatening
  • For a crime that is being committed or has just been committed (includes fire and medical emergencies).

131444 (Police) ๐Ÿ‘ฎ

  • Non-urgent situations that require police attendance
  • E.g. car theft, anti-social behaviour (ASB), property related incidents, burglary
  • For crimes that have occurred.

1300 333 000 (CrimeStoppers) ๐Ÿš“

  • Non-urgent situations where immediate attendance is not required
  • E.g. criminal activity or suspicious behaviour
  • You can remain anonymous (as you are not reporting to the police directly)
  • Information can be current or from the past.

1300 26 72 33 (CoSafe) ๐Ÿš”

  • Non-urgent situations where immediate police attendance is not required
  • E.g. ASB, vandalism, graffiti, suspicious behaviour (this will be reported to CrimeStoppers), noise complaints
  • CoSafe responds to calls within 15 minutes.

Please help us to keep Treeby safe. No matter how trivial you think your information is, it might be the missing link for the police. ๐Ÿšจ

Lastly, if you are interested in comparing our suburb with the rest of City of Cockburn, you can find the NHW - Monthly CoSafe Report - April 2020 here.
