There is an update from City of Cockburn regarding the installation of sports floodlighting over the coming months at our Treeby Reserve (Oval). A formal letter should be making rounds in our estate. You can also read about it here!

The City of Cockburn with the support of the Federal Governments (Sport Australia) Community Sport Infrastructure Program is scheduled to install four new sports floodlighting towers over the period of March to June 2020 on Treeby Reserve, corner of Clementine Blvd and Sapphire Dve, Treeby.

On the next page is a map outlining where the floodlighting towers will be located and some Frequently Asked Questions.

The sports floodlighting will use LED lights and will allow both sporting clubs and the wider community to use the reserve at night.

Notably, the installation will include a community light that enables low level lighting at night when the reserve is not being used by a sporting club. This light will enable basic leisure activities to occur (walking or running) and will discourage anti-social behaviour.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why has Treeby Reserve been chosen for floodlighting?
The City of Cockburn is committed to providing public open spaces that are well utilised. Treeby Reserve is currently the only active sporting reserve in the suburb of Treeby. It provides a good location for local sport and recreation activities and was originally set aside for recreational purposes as part of the planning process for Treeby.
The park is currently under the management of the developer Stockland; however this is scheduled to come across to the City in 2021. Once the formal management of the reserve is transferred to the City, the City will have the ability to allocate usage to sporting clubs for use.
  2. What type of sporting activities could be undertaken?
The lighting layout has been configured to accommodate two rectangular pitches (soccer, rugby) as well as an Australian Rules Football oval. Lighting is to local community competition match standard.
  3. Which sporting clubs will use the reserve?
At the Ordinary Council Meeting in June 2019, the Fremantle Roosters Rugby League Club was awarded winter tenancy (April to September) to Treeby Reserve following an open expression of interest process. At this time, no summer sporting clubs have expressed an interest.
  4.  Will I still be able to use the park for informal recreation activities (such as walking, jogging, dog walking)?
Yes, although the park will be available for hire by organised sporting groups, the park is still available for general use of the community at other times. In any case, informal recreation activities could be still undertaken around the park and the barbecue, picnic shelter and playground can be used by the community at all times.
  5. What does the sportsโ€™ floodlighting include?
Sports floodlighting will enable greater sporting opportunities at night to be undertaken in a safe manner. The proposed infrastructure includes four 34m towers with LED lights. The overall brightness can be switched from 50 to 100 lux to enable both training and local level competition in line with Australian Standard AS2560.2.3.
The floodlight pole locations and design has taken into consideration the control of obtrusive light to nearby amenities and residential properties as per Australian Standard AS4282. In any situation, floodlighting would only be operating in the park between 5.30pm to 9pm (Mon to Thurs) and 10pm (Fri and Sat). Sporting clubs using the lights are required to pay for running costs.
  6. When will works occur?
Works are scheduled for March and April 2020 and from 7am โ€“ 5pm Mon to Fri. Some Saturday work may be required. Works will occur periodically, however the community will still have access to the reserve and amenities.

I know many of us are waiting for an update on the Treeby Primary School as well as our Community Centre. Many of us built our home in this estate because of these facilities. We, the TCA, compiled the latest update for your convinience.

Treeby Community Centre ๐Ÿ‰

Back in March 2019, Cockburn Council conducted a preliminary survey to the Calleya community on the utilisation and visions for our community centre. All the results are compiled, taken into consideration, and it is currently in the floorplan design stage with an estimated date of completion around March 2022* (subject to change).

The oval will be shared with Fremantle Roosters Rugby League Club, they were awarded winter tenancy last June, which they have many junior players around and in Treeby surroundings. Hopefully, this will encourage more children and teenagers to get out of the house and away from screens ๐Ÿ˜Š.

There will be an official announcement on Treeby Community Centre around March 2020 where they will officially publish the draft-designs as well as a Q&A session for all the Calleya residents.

For more information about the community centre development, you can check out Cockburn Council's website >> Major Projects >> Calleya Estate Treeby Community Centre
