You may have noticed that construction for the long-awaited community garden has commenced. It was once a barren sandpit, but now there are structures and planter boxes spotted throughout.
A huge thanks to the team at Stockland Calleya, our supportive Deputy Mayor and East Ward Councillors, and our Treeby Community Association (TCA) executive team for making this happen.
A community garden is a place where people come together to grow a variety of vegetables, herbs, and fruits. TCA believes that urban agriculture can be beneficial to the environment, and the health and wellbeing of community members. The introduction of community garden provides opportunities for both recreational gardening and growing food for consumption. Gardens also contribute to the biodiversity of species and help to support populations of pollinators. Finally, a community garden brings people together by engaging residents in a positive initiative.
The garden is still at the primal stage with a target completion date of early-November. There will be a 'planting day' event to officiate the opening of the community garden, but that will be advised when we receive the confirmation.
Joining a community garden does not just provide fresh food and a great social network, but it also encourages us to eat more veggies and improves our neighbourhood environment. In a time where less and less children know where food comes from, becoming a part of a community garden will also help kids learn and connect with the food they eat.
If you are interested in getting your hands dirty at our Calleya Community Garden, please don't hesitate and send us an email to email@example.com or message us at our TCA Facebook page.
Treeby Community Association (TCA) committee member had been working hard to provide value and service to residents. This year we decided to connect with the community through the form of the classic newsletter in the hope to reach a wider audience and receive support in return.
In the newsletter we aim to re-introduce ourselves, keeping you posted with what is happening in your community, list out some upcoming events, our achievements in 2018/2019, and most important of all, your feedback. We want to hear your thoughts and idea on how TCA should move forward in 2020.
1200 newsletter copies were printed and schedules to be hand-delivered by the end of August. Please check your mailboxes for your copy. If we had missed you, we are very sorry! You can still read them online here.
We would love for you to become a member of TCA. You will not only supporting the association but also gain access to the community garden and let your voice be heard. Just $10/year you can make a difference and be a part of shaping the growth of Treeby!
Firstly I would like to thanks all volunteers of the TCA for all their effort and hard work so far, your efforts dont go unnoticed in the community from road issues, community involvment to getting the garden project off the ground with stockland.
However with over 1200 homes currenty in Calleya we are spread very thin and we would like to spread the word that help is needed, no matter how small a task, from attending a meeting, to helping cook Sausages or even delivering leaflets, your community needs you.
if you can help please send us an email with your availability and interests ie - Garden committee , bimonthly BBQ's, Events committee, delivering leaflets, attending general meetings, we also need help with our social media accounts so if you are tech savvy or can spare time to promote us we will take you up on any offers you have.
If you need to have a document witnessed, the best place to go is a Document Witnessing Centre where a Justice of the Peace (JP) will assist you. There are Document Witnessing Centres located at many metropolitan and regional locations.
